Treatment

As there are contra-indications to the treatments, a complete medical history will need to be provided together with personal information. These forms are sent electronically prior to your first appointment and require you to provide an email address and mobile phone number for access. Please note that if you are suffering from Coronavirus, cold, flu, winter vomiting virus etc or are in the early stages of recovery, soft tissue work will not be able to be carried out. If in any doubt please telephone before your appointment.

Prior to any physical assessment we will talk about the injury or pain that you are experiencing together with any factors that may have contributed or have been affected by this injury. This could include your occupation, leisure pursuits/hobbies and general well being.

For the physical assessment and any treatments it is recommended that a pair of shorts and a suitable top (for instance, for women, a strappy vest top) are worn to enable a full assessment to be carried out. Postural and joint assessments will be undertaken, together with ascertaining if any muscle imbalances exist. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The information gained from these assessments will form the basis of the treatment plan which will combine a number of soft tissue and stretching techniques that could include :

  • Joint mobilisations

  • Active and passive stretching (including Muscle Energy Techniques)

  • Soft tissue release

  • Sports and remedial massage

  • Hot and cold therapy

  • Soft tissue mobilisation

  • Trigger point therapy

  • Laser Therapy

  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Following the soft tissue work a rehabilitation/exercise therapy plan will be advised providing a combination of strengthening and stretching exercises to assist in the recovery process that are to be carried out at home or work between treatments.
