The research that Dr. Floyd Reed and I are doing to help combat mosquito-vectored avian diseases was featured in the news this week. We are exploring strategies to use Wolbachia, a type of bacteria, as a form of birth control for mosquitoes. The research is a partnership between UH Mānoa and UH Hilo, and is supported by Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources, and US Fish and Wildlife Service.
