Not a mosquito post

So, I actually haven't spent much time in the lab this week. One fairly legitimate reason is that I moved most of the equipment out of the mosquito room on Friday, in preparation for minor renovations that were supposed to happen on Monday. They didn't. Sigh. I should probably also note that while I moved a lot of our very precious items, like our very lovely femtojet microinjector, I have to thank Floyd and Áki for moving the heavy stuff over the weekend (incubators etc.), while I took off to Maui. (hey, I met a big grant deadline on Friday, and figured I deserved the weekend away)

The other reason is that I've been focusing on putting together a presentation for a seminar that I am co-lecturing (with Dr. Timothy Davidson), on "how to give an effective presentation". Tim is going to discuss how to plan and structure a talk, as well as some tips to present clearly and confidently. I'm going to discuss "visual style", including some basic rules for font, colour, and layout, and hopefully still have some time to talk about some "what if scenarios". You know, stuff like "What do you do if members of the audience look bored or angry?"

So you see, this isn't a mosquito post. Not really. The photo of a mosquito egg raft that my student, Natasha, took for her research project, and which I have included below, is just one photo. Hardly anything. ;)

Here it is, Natasha's extreme close-up of an egg raft! (She now gets to count all the eggs):
