Mosquito larvae, and then some!

As a follow up to Floyd's blog post last week, I thought I would share some photos that I took today of our southern house mosquito larvae (Culex quinquefasciatus). It took us several months to get our lab conditions just right to really ramp up adult survival and egg production, but the time invested has really paid off!

Here is a larvae tray showing larvae from an egg raft that I collected on August 19. The dark clumps are fish food pellets......

A little closer. You can see the bits of fish food.......

Closer. I put some larvae in a glass jar to try getting a better photo......

At some point I will try to add a video showing how the larvae move about in the tray!
