Research Interests

My research is concerned with interannual to decadal time scale tropical ocean-atmosphere variability. The primary aim is to understand the processes that control the strength and frequency of sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the tropical Pacific and Atlantic ocean, associated with the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Atlantic Niño mode with centers in both the eastern equatorial Atlantic and off the Angolan coast.

I am interested in drivers of individual events, the mean state dependency of the variability as well as differences, similarities, and interactions between these climate modes.

To gain insight into the mechanisms that drive and link climate variability in different parts of the tropical-subtropical ocean-atmosphere system I am analyzing output from ocean general circulation models as well as observational data and reanalysis products.
