John Golden is an English teacher at Cleveland High School in Portland, Oregon and formerly an advisor to the College Board®'s 6-12 English Language Arts Development Committee. An English teacher for over twenty-five years, John has developed curriculum and led workshops for the College Board's Pacesetter and SpringBoard® English programs and developed educational materials for fiction and documentary films. He is the author of Reading in the Dark: Using Film as a Tool in the English Classroom (NCTE, 2001) and Reading in the Reel World: Teaching Documentaries and Other Nonfiction Texts (NCTE, 2006), a co-author of Advanced Language and Literature (Bedford St. Martin's, 2016; 2021) and Foundations of Language and Literature (Bedford St. Martin's, 2018; 2023), the host and producer of the Third Rail Classroom podcast, and the producer of Teaching Ideas: A Video Resource for AP® English (Bedford/St. Martin's, 2008) and The NCTE Centennial Film: Reading the Past, Writing the Future (NCTE, 2010).
