John Dyck

I'm an Instructor in Philosophy at Auburn University.

My research is motivated by the idea that beauty and art help us explain neglected but important aspects of human agency and value. Art and beauty are more plastic than we often realize. I explore this in aesthetic experience, aesthetic value, and all kinds of music. I really like to draw upon evidence, approaches, and questions from disciplines outside philosophy.

I've taught broadly: critical thinking, logic, ethics, environmental ethics, race and gender, philosophy of mind, and aesthetics. I'm proud of my ability to teach philosophy. In 2021 I was awarded 'Outstanding Instructor of the Year' from the Auburn College of Liberal Arts.
