Health & Equity Workshop
Alicante, June 2-4, 2005
Scope
The attention devoted to equity in Health Economics research has strongly increased over the past decade. Problems of discrimination, differences in the accessibility to health care services, and questions about how to measure equity and how to incorporate it into economic evaluations of health care are of major relevance nowadays.
The aim of the Alicante Health & Equity Workshop is to bring together both health economists (who have focused on equity and health) and more general economists whose contributions to the general principles of equity could be of special interest. The emphasis of the workshop will lie on discussion. We selected three main topics: Equality of opportunity, the Capability approach, and Equity in cost-utility analysis. The format of the workshop will include some presentations on each issue, followed by discussion. We hope that the different views will contribute to the debate on how to deal with equity in health.
