Summer School on Political Economy and Social Choice
Summer School on Political Economy and Social Choice
Torremolinos, June 9-12, 2007
Scope
The origin of political economy and social choice can be traced back to the Eighteenth Century with the contributions of Adam Smith and the Marquis de Condorcet. The connection between these two fields, however, dates back to the Twentieth Century with the work of Kenneth Arrow. Since Arrow's seminal contribution, there has been an increasing attention to issues touching both fields and even connecting them.
The aim of this Summer School on Political Economy and Social Choice is to bring together economists with expertise and research background in both fields for a few days. There will be four plenary speakers addressing two plenary lectures each morning, followed by some sessions of contributed papers (related to the topics of the plenary lectures) in the afternoons. The summer school is intended to provide a broad perspective on collective decision-making, presenting economic and political aspects from both a theoretical and empirical viewpoint.
