I think it's Tuesday?! I hope families are doing well. Today, I had the chance to try out Zoom to read with students using Raz Kids on the screen share feature with Zoom. I have scheduled a few more conferences for this for Wednesday and Thursday.

We had our first Zoom Staff Meeting. At Golden Ears we have over 50+ staff. It was nice to see everyone's faces. Mrs. Scoular will be sending out more information. All of the staff are in good health and are staying safe working from home.

It is IMPORTANT to take advantage in the learning opportunities.

By the end of the week, you will receive the plan for next week with activities listed. The most challenging part is to get set up on My Portfolio. Once you have set this up you can post pictures, view assignments and this portfolio will be online as long as you are a student in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. Please e-mail me if you need assistance.

Check out a link that a parent shared with me from the Vancouver Aquarium.

MY PORTFOLIO

April 6, 2020

Good morning!

Our first Zoom meeting starts in 30 minutes. I look forward to seeing students and families. I am currently working on setting up My Portfolio. The school district houses portfolios in one spot using your student ID number. Mrs. Hansen has created a YouTube video on how to get set up.

This is a great way to share assignments with me and they will be on your account as long as you are a student in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.

Have a great day!

Dear Families,

You will have all received an e-mail about some learning opportunities for next week. Feel free to send samples of your child's work to my email. Join in and connect over a Zoom in a meeting on Monday.

There will be more information to follow for the weeks to come.

Check in-

Are you reading for at least 20 minutes a day? Books on your book shelf, Raz Kids, Tumble Books, and Epic are great places to start.

Continue to practice math facts (addition and subtraction)

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs. McIntosh

Good afternoon. As I have contacted more people I have the good news of reporting that students and families are healthy!

Stay safe and watch for an e-mail and update from me for some learning opportunities for students and families for next week.

It is Easter long weekend. I have no idea what our family will be doing for the long weekend, but I am sure it includes plans such as going for a walk, having a dinner together and hopefully eating some chocolate!

With students I enjoy dying hard boiled eggs and I might have a video to share next week if I can figure out the techonology around that.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs. McIntosh

Good afternoon! I have begun to phone families and I have had some quick conversations with students. Asking them how they are doing and what resources they have. Also the mentioning "cleaning your room" to students as my own boys have trouble following this direction. Hearing it from another adult can help (sometimes).

The good news about my class community is that it's been positive news. Students and families are in good health and are trying new activities. They are taking things slow and understand how important it is to keep everyone safe and healthy!

Teachers are trying to gather information and plan. This site, e-mails and phone calls will be the ways I focus on communication.

One of the documents from the Ministry of Education titled "Continuity of Learning Planning Guide For Teachers" has some good information.

Kindergarten-Grade 3

"For learners in the primary years, engagement may include but not be limited to providing schedules, opportunites and resources for families and caregivers. Educators may also use technologies to establish "live" virtual contact with individuals or groups of learners to facilitate thier learning actvities and to sustain a sense of community among young learners." p.2

I will be trying some new things out, for example, Zoom and your participation is optional. I want to make sure that students feel conected at this time and parents are supported. Please feel free to e-mail me for ideas and resources as I enjoy helping.

I look forward to speaking with more families tomorrow.

Stay safe,

Mrs. McIntosh

Good Morning! I sent an email out yesterday with this link. I started an account for students with a Math App or website called Sum Dog. The link is posted below. I have the student's username and password and I will be sending that information if you would like to use this program.

https://www.sumdog.com

If you have a preferred time for a phone call do NOT hesitate to send an email with the best time to call. As teachers, we continue to plan, program, and learn new ways of reaching students and families. We understand that this is a time of unusual circumstances and stress. I want the students to feel connected as a school community and provide them with some learning opportunities that are meaningful.

I downloaded Zoom to my laptop and it is a video meeting platform. I will be giving that a try.

Please take care and I look forward to talking to you over the next few days.

Schools are not in session at this time. This page is intended to provide parents and students with some engaging learning opportunities. By the end of the week you will hear from the classroom teacher. I hope my students and families are well at this time. It is so unexpected and we all need to come together as a community through the ways that are recommended by the Provincial Health Officer.

Take care! Enjoy the sunshine that is peaking through the clouds at this time.
