Jisoo Hwang is an Associate Professor of Economics at Seoul National University. Her research fields are labor and family economics, with a focus on low fertility, gender gaps in labor markets, and how policies and life events shape individuals’ careers, family formation, and health.
In 2026, she was appointed as a member of the G7 Gender Equality Advisory Council (GEAC), a high-level expert group advising the G7 on gender equality policy under the French Presidency. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Asian and Australasian Society of Labour Economics (AASLE) and has been invited as a plenary speaker at the 2025 Econometric Society World Congress. In 2020, Hwang received the Korean Economy Research Award for her work on the transition of son preference. She is a Research Fellow at the Rockwool Foundation Berlin and is the co-PI of the Health-Family-Labor Economics Research Team.
Hwang received her Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and her B.A. in Economics from Seoul National University.
