Manchester is situated in the North West of England. It was a very important city in the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution.
In the first term, when we read "All About Britain", we learnt about Charles Dickens and some of his novels and we found out that he usually wrote about children working long hours. The Industrial revolution meant the modernisation of society in a way. However, one of the most negative consequences was the exploitation of children. Dickens himself started to work at the age of 12 to pay for his dad's debts.

Nowadays, Manchester is notable for its architecture, culture, music scene and sporting connections. Manchester football teams are Manchester United and Manchester City.
