Jill R Wells has been a part of the local Oklahoma City art scene since April 2009. From 2009 to 2013 she worked as a promoter and curator for a local art space called The Parish OKC located in the Plaza District. Jill was inspired by her time at the Parish just as God provided a home work space. Painting became a natural part of her free time.
Jill graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2003. She is married to Joshua Wells. They have 4 children. She enjoys the freedom to create that art provides, and the opportunity to improve as a person. Josh, her "resident genius" is a huge inspiration to her because he is ever-curious and supportive. "His love and support of my goals and crazy schedule define the word sacrifice. The excellence he demonstrates in his own work and his fascination of history is inspiring to live with," says Jill.
She defines art as, "a visual expression that inspires a response." She hopes to capture themes of beauty and historical significance in her work. "History is a great teacher and inspires my subject matter. It is something that all people are a part of, however briefly, and have the power to influence. I trust the teachings of Christ and hope that the imprint I leave on history shows a likeness to His love and forgiveness," says Jill.
The bulk of what she has created-to-date comes from her World War II collection. This collection was painted throughout 2010 and 2011. Jill was inspired by World War II photography and its depiction of the greater good vs. the greater evil at work in our world. The collection serves to remind Jill of her own daily fight to choose to live as Christ lived (demonstrating love, mercy, redemption, self-sacrifice, peace, self-discipline...) and not for the convenience or benefit of herself.
Her recent collections include "The Authors," "Oklahoma Proud," and "The Red, The White, and The Blue." Other paintings in the web gallery are from commissioned artwork or work done for charitable causes. In 2014, Jill became an elementary art teacher at www.cha.org. Passing on her passion for art and history is a precious thing to Jill and she is happy to let it slow down her personal productivity.
