Office hours will be held Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30-12:30, Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-10:30 at my office.
I will be answering your questions by email regularly. However, online office hours can be scheduled by appointments when I will stay online to respond (almost) immediately.

Prerequisites
Math 101 or 104, or two years of high school algebra and a score of 26 or higher on ACT Mathematics, or placement by Mathematics Department examination.
Communication
You must check your ku.edu email account regularly. You are responsible for all information sent to that account. You can address questions to the instructor by using email, either within or outside of Blackboard, or by using the "Ask the instructor" feature in MyMathLab. Answers to content questions will be posted on the Blackboard Discussion Board.
Textbook
Excursions in Modern Mathematics, 8th edition, Peter Tannenbaum, Prentice Hall,2013, with MyLabsPlus
You can buy the MyLabsPlus access by clicking MyMathLab Bridge tab on your blackboard and following the prompts. You will have access to the ebook through MyLabsPlus. Buying a paper book is not required.
Chapters covered: 1,2,4,5,6,7, and 10.
You may use a calculator no more advanced than a TI 84 throughout the course.
Homework and Quizzes
If you are adequately prepared, you should expect to spend around nine efficient hours per week on this course. There will be weekly online homework, some online quizzes, and some written homework that you will scan to submit.
Students may study together but you must write your own solutions. You must never lend or borrow written homework before it is due. You will be allowed five attempts at each problem on your online homework #1.You will be allowed three attempts on online homework #2 through #14. There will be some exceptions. Homework is not timed but quizzes are timed. You will have only one attempt on your quizzes. ( No exceptions.)
There would be one online assignment due every Thursday. In addition to the online assignment, there would be a quiz and a written assignment due every other Thursday.
Proctored Exams
The midterm and final exams are paper and pencil exams and must be taken in person at an approved testing center. The KU Center for Online and Distance Learning coordinates these exams. If you are not in Lawrence, you will have to make arrangements to take a proctored exam at another institution. Click the "Exams" link in the left navigation bar for more information about taking exams in and outside of Lawrence. Calculators are permitted on exams, but you many not use any cell phones, other electronic devices, books, notes or scratch paper.
Grades
Final grades are based on your score out of a possible 1000 points, half of which come from the proctored midterm and final exams.
A final score of 90% or 900 points guarantees an A, 80% (800 points) B, 70% (700 points) C, and 60% (600 points) D.
Students who choose the Credit/No Credit grade option must receive at least a C to receive credit.

Online Homework and Quiz Tool
Online homework and quizzes are on the MyLabsPlus site. Use of this website is required. To get there, click on the "MyLabsPlus Bridge" button at left. You can use MyLabsPlus without an access code for a limited time, until you are sure you will stay in the course. Then you must register by submitting an access code obtained either from the bookstore or the Pearson website.
MyLabsPlus includes an electronic version of the textbook, and supplementary materials (videos, power point presentations and sample exercises).
