Biography

Jiayi Zhang (S’08-M'14-SM'20) received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. (with distinction) degree of Communication Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China in 2007 and 2014, respectively. He is currently a Professor in School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University. He was a Postdoc in Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University from 2014 to 2016. He was a Humboldt Research Fellow in Institute for Digital Communications, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) from September 2014 to August 2015. From August 2012 through August 2013, he was a visiting Ph.D. student at the Communications, Signal Processing and Control, University of Southampton, United Kingdom. He has also held research visiting appointments at Queen's University Belfast, United Kingdom. His current research interests include extremely large-scale MIMO, cell-free massive MIMO, reconfigurable intelligent surface, communication theory and applied mathematics.

Dr. Zhang received the Best Paper Awards at the IEEE ICC 2023, WCSP 2017, APCC 2017, the URSI Young Scientist Award in 2020, and the IEEE ComSoc Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2020. He was recognized as an exemplary reviewer of the IEEE Communications Letters in 2015-2017. He was also recognized as an exemplary reviewer of the IEEE Transactions on Communications in 2017-2019. He was the Lead Guest Editor of the special issue on ``Multiple Antenna Technologies for Beyond 5G" of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications. He was the Lead Guest Editor of the special issue on ``Semantic Communications for the Metaverse" of the IEEE Wireless Communications. He is the editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications from 2019.
