This is a list of homework assignments, including exercises and reading assignments. You can sort them by clicking on "Sort" in any column. Watch this site for updates and/or new homework.
Note: For computational exercises involving the writing of code (such as a MATLAB m-file), you are required to turn in a copy of the code with your homework. Code and code output for solving numerical problems must be submitted electronically; do not scan the code and submit that (we want the original file). The electronic submission of HW, including code and code output, must be completed by 4:30PM E.T. on the due date unless notified otherwise (i.e., all homework is due via Gradescope no later than the beginning of class).
Note: In submitting homework with at least one computing problem, you should submit one file that contains codes and also a pdf/word/txt file that includes all answers and outputs of the computing problems. Please do not submit a zip folder. For code, please submit the file to Gradescope with the following formats for the following languages:
C = .c
C++ = .cpp, .cxx, .cc
C# = .cs
F# = .fs, .fsx
Go = .go
Java = .java
JavaScript = .js
Matlab = .m
MIPS = .asm
ML (Assuming OCaml or Standard ML) = .ml
Python = .py
R = .r, .R
If converting IPYNB to PY, this must be done through a program (e.g. Jupyter). Changing the file extension on the operating system will not suffice.
Note: For class integrity purposes, we will keep a record of all submitted homeworks and quizzes. If a student appeals his/her grade and, through the archival record or other means, it is detected that an alteration was made to the original solution, the student will receive a grade of 0 on the item in question (HW or quiz) and may be reported to the WSE Dean's Office or the appropriate Department Chair for further sanctions.
Note: The standard weekly reading assignment is to review the sections/appendices/chapters in ISSO consistent with the schedule given in the syllabus. The standard reading assignments are not listed below ("unusual" reading assignments will be listed below).
Note: Exercises below that are listed with the relevant chapter or appendix followed by a lower case letter (e.g., 7.a, 7.b, etc.) are from the file Supplementary Exercises given below.
Note: All the discussion and outputs of the codes should be included in the main HW/pdf submission. You will receive a maximum of between zero and half credit for solutions and discussion that are not in the main pdf submission but only in the code submission.
Note: Prior to working on a problem from any earlier version of the file Supplementary Exercises that a student may have printed or saved on his/her computer, students should check the current online version of the file in case there are updates.
