The ability to grow both professionally and personally is a unique experience shared only by those who teach. My personal teaching philosophy fosters a collective learning environment where students and teachers equally contribute to the classroom dynamic. I feel my role as an instructor is to create an atmosphere that fuels critical thinking and provides the opportunity for hands-on application. By supplementing exercises that relate to the course material, students can learn the basic standards of journalistic writing. I model my class as a newsroom, allowing students to take on the role as reporter and myself as editor-in-chief. Stories are submitted on deadline with strict adherence to AP Style, organization, grammar and sentence structure.
As a younger teacher with professional reporting experience, I feel my knowledge of new media technology is communicated through my lectures. By incorporating trending examples in news-related disciplines, my goal is to build mental connections from the classroom to the real world. I am passionate about the role of journalism in society, and hope to share that enthusiasm with future generations of media professionals.
