Dad. Computer geek, musician, general gadfly and malcontent- that's me.
I'm a professional computer geek employed by a large urban school district. Please note that the views expressed here are my own; they are not reviewed, or endorsed, by my employer.
I like to play with robotics and computer programming; I'm a big fan of the Arduino microcontroller and of the Python programming language. I'm by no means an expert at either, but they're fun things to do with my copious free time. While I'm professionally an Apple geek, I'm a huge fan of Linux, particularly Ubuntu/Xubuntu. I also like to build stuff and modify it- I'm a huge fan of Make: magazine and of the Mythbusters TV show. Science and technology make me smile.
I play the guitar and some other stuff in a couple of bands "Steve West and the Northern Stars" and BlueGreen. I occasionally sit in with other folks as well. I have played in the Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands with my buddies in The West Bank Temperance League for years now. If you're in MN that weekend, come check it out. What could be more fun than homemade instruments and lots of beer?
Speaking of beer- I brew beer. I like to try new types whenever I go someplace new. I love a good ale.
