About the Artist

Jennifer Politano began oil painting in 2008 after she established her family and career as an elementary ENL teacher in upstate New York. Plein air painting became a way for her to explore the region and appreciate the history and people where she settled down. Jennifer has lived in Virginia, Wisconsin and Tennessee as well as studied abroad in Berlin, Germany and traveled to South Korea. She continues to visit family along the East Coast, and in New Mexico and Colorado where she enjoys cultural and environmental diversity.

She did not study art formally but participates irregularly in studio sessions and critiques led by Siena College arts instructor, Ed Ticson, in New York’s Capital Region. Her primary influences are Hudson River School artists, American Impressionists, American Modernists, early Taos Society Artists and Post-Impressionists. She enjoys figurative work as well as landscape work and frequently combines the two in her subject matter. She takes part in several regional art events each summer and has participated in artist residencies in Lake George and Niskayuna, NY.
