Still Lifes
Spring Bouquet 22 x 28 Oil on Canvas
The fleeting colors of spring are set against a grey winter background in this portrait of tulips and pussy willows in an heirloom vase. All elements of the bouquet and backdrop accompany the dancing cherubs with their unique movement, from the flowing silk to the curling fantail willow branches.
Bohemian Glass 12 x 16 Oil on Canvas
So many precious things just don't fit into our lifestyles or our cabinets anymore. The images of them, non-the-less, transport us in time and space to remind us of people whom we have dearly loved. A painting takes up far less space and carries with it the same significance as the heirlooms they portray. Here is the first painting in my series I call "You Can't Take it With You."

The Handshake
24 x 36 Mixed Media Oil on Canvas
"To pick corn you need to grab it like you're shaking someone's hand," the farmer said.
Before COVID-19 hit us, all I wanted to paint was this farmer picking corn. However, the virus made us rethink even a simple handshake. That's why I decided to add the invasive species, velvetleaf, into my painting. It creeps its way into the cornfield the way COVID crept its way into our lives. Many of my farming paintings have solitary figures in them which, in this case, appropriately reflects the isolation we felt during the pandemic.
We have a contract with the land to care for it and in return be nourished by it. "The Handshake" represents this business transaction. 24 x 36 mixed media oil on canvas.
How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place
24 x 36 Mixed Media Oil on Canvas
The title of this piece is a nod to A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms as well as to the secondary career of the farmer depicted in this painting, the church choir director.
Business Call
24 x 36 Mixed Media Oil on Canvas
Plenty of extra work lies ahead of this tired farmer, an artist in his own right, who takes orders to paint ghoulish jack-o-lantern faces on a crop of pumpkins for Halloween.
