J. Elizabeth Richey

Teaching Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh

I received my PhD in cognitive psychology from the University of Pittsburgh's Learning Research & Development Center. I previously served as an assistant professor of educational psychology at Miami University and as a project scientist at Carnegie Mellon's Human-Computer Interaction Institute. I am also an advisory board member and former co-editor of the Journal of Research in Childhood Education.

I conduct learning sciences research, with particular interests in educational technology, motivation, example-based learning, explanation, collaboration, and belonging. Through laboratory experiments and classroom studies, I examine cognitive, metacognitive, and motivational factors that influence math and science learning from middle school through college.
