about me

I am an embedded systems software/firmware engineer. I am also involved in software testing, system testing, V&V, and systems engineering.

I have worked on projects for aerospace, railroad, nuclear, government and financial industries.

I grew up in the small town of Meerhout, in Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium.

I came to California in 2001 to enjoy the sun, beaches, mountains and national parks.

I am married and have two great kids.

I spend a lot of time and dinero's fixing up our little house and manage to sometimes not screw things up. Lowe's and Home Depot like me a lot.

Currently my interests are in robotics. I build and program them. I will be posting tutorials and project descriptions. Stay tuned! I am the Board Secretary of the Robotics Society of Southern Californa (RSSC), and a member of the Los Angeles chapter of Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI).

I also enjoy programming in Python. I will be posting tutorials and projects soon on this site too.

We like to travel but do not get do it that often anymore. Before having kids, we were fortunate to visit parts of France, Holland, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Crete, South Africa. We lived in Antwerp, Zaventem (near Brussels), Toulouse (France) and now in California. In France, we liked hiking in the Pyrenees and the many vineyards.

Now that the kids are getting bigger, we hope to pick up traveling and visiting the surrounding national parks.

In a previous life, I was active in our local ju-jutsu club. I made it to nidan (2nd degree black belt) and was one of the instructors of our club.

I was also active in the local Red Cross as a first aid volunteer, instructor and youth leader.

I also did a fair amount of scuba diving, in the Oosterschelde in Holland, and in California. I obtained the following certificates: LA County ADP, NAUI Rescue Diver and NAUI Master Scuba Diver. Unfortunately I have not been able to go diving since my son was born. I am hoping to pick this up again.

I am also an avid aerospace technology and history fan. The Apollo Moon program is my all-time favorite.

For entertainment I mostly enjoy movies. On TV, the only stuff worth watching was Battlestar Galactica, Prototype This!, and MythBusters.
