Athletic Director Introduction

My name is Jeff Brown and I am in my 6th year as the athletic director at a private school in Northern Virginia named Commonwealth Academy. I have also served as the physical education teacher for the last eight years, during which time I was the head varsity coach for the high school boys’ basketball and soccer teams.

During my time as the athletic director I have helped to expand the athletic program by adding new sports, entering our teams into preseason tournaments, and admitting our teams into an independent school league on a full-time basis for all sports. I have worked to improve the culture of athletics at the school by starting new traditions such as school-wide pep rallies, staff vs. students’ games in basketball, soccer, and volleyball, and providing year-end athletic banquets. I am responsible for hiring and providing constructive feedback for all coaches. I maintain on site facilities, and procure off-site venues for practices and games. Along with organizing and scheduling all athletic events and practices, I pride myself on effective communication with all stakeholders in our program including student-athletes, parents, coaches, faculty, administration, and fans.

My experience as athletic director has coincided with a two-year masters program in Athletic Administration from Ohio University in which I developed specific skills for my current position as athletic director.

On a personal note, my entire life has revolved around physical fitness, as evidenced by my decision to compete in four sports during my high school career (football, basketball, baseball, and soccer). I have also competed in golf, tennis, and track and field events. My love and passion for sports and fitness-related activities has only grown stronger over the years. As such, I have dedicated my life to helping young adults learn life lessons through sports.
