Dr. Jean-Lionel Payeur-Poirier
Forest Scientist and Engineer
As a Forest Scientist and a Forest Engineer, I apply science into practice for the sustainable management of forests, for increasing effectiveness and efficiency in forestry, and for the enhancement of ecosystem services. My expertise lies in the fields of digitalization and innovation in forestry, geographic information systems (GIS), climate change in forest ecosystems and forest hydrology.
My curriculum vitae summarized:
I am presently employed by the State Forests of Lower Saxony as a project manager in digitalization. I was previously employed by the Chamber of Agriculture of Lower Saxony where I was a specialist in digitalization and innovation in forestry, as well as the leader of the project GeProOpt_Holz, a staff of the project CO-2-OPT and a staff for forest management. Prior to this, I pursued doctoral studies in forest hydrology at Universität Bayreuth. My project concerned the Hydrological dynamics of forested catchments as influenced by the East Asian summer monsoon. Before this, I was employed by the Canadian Forest Service, where I co-implemented and co-managed a national-scale database on plant functional traits. I also contributed to the establishment of potential indicators for the evaluation of climate change effects on Canada’s forests. Prior to this position, I completed a Master's degree in forest sciences, within the framework of the Canadian Carbon Program. I studied the CO2 fluxes of a boreal black spruce chronosequence in eastern North America. During and following my bachelor studies in forestry, I was employed by the Natural Resources Institute Finland and by the NSERC - University Laval Industrial Research Chair in Silviculture and Wildlife, where I participated in various research projects in forest hydrology, silviculture, and on the effects of climate change on tree seedlings.
