From 2004-2011 I was a professional commentator for video game competitions or eSports. I travelled to places such as Italy, China and South Korea to participate as talent/host/commentator in tournaments broadcast around the world. Many gamers thought of me as "the voice of Counter-Strike" at that time, though it would be a mistake not to recognize many other commentators who were amazing at Counter-Strike commentary such as Alex "Vansilli" Nguyen, Glenn "Boomerman" Lane and Zach "Hoo_man" Godfrey, all of whom I had the pleasure of working with. I appreciate the experience of travelling and meeting gamers from all over the world. I met Counter-Strike teams from Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Canada, Malaysia, and many other countries. Being exposed to interactions with video gamers from different cultures was a sincerely beautiful and meaningful way for me to grow and learn about the world beyond what I had already known. I was able to learn about others, using video games as a medium. These experiences, among others have absolutely informed my awareness of, and sensitivity to cultural differences.
