Course description:
This course will provide students the opportunity to acquire skills necessary to obtain certification in first aid/CPR. Students complete practical and written activities, and assessments that will provide a basic foundation of knowledge for injury prevention and treatment. Students will learn basic structure of human anatomy. Written exams, projects, quizzes will be administered to evaluate student mastery of material. The goals of this course are to provide a basic background on the medical and non-medical use of drugs and to explore selected contemporary issues in drug use, abuse, and misuse. At the conclusion of the course the student should have a better understanding of how and why drugs are used, the effects they produce, and be a better informed citizen and consumer.
Our Health Department aims to increase student knowledge about the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual dimensions of wellness, thus enabling them to make informed choices about their health now and in the future. Wellness can be defined, as a way of life that emphasizes health promotion measures such as healthy eating, learning to manage stress, and reducing one’s risk of contracting a disease. Taking responsibility for one’s own health is an essential step towards developing and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

5. Attendance/Tardiness
a. Attendance in class is crucial. Please do not plan any special meetings with
advisors, coaches or teachers during class time.
Number of absences accrued by the student
o Full Year Course: (Credit lost at 19th absence)
o Half Year Course: (Credit lost at 10th absence)
o Quarter Course no lab: (Credit lost at 7th absence)
o Quarter course with a lab: (Credit lost at 5th absence)
b. Every three tardies to a half year course will equate to a cut of class and
disciplinary consequence equivalent to that for a cut of class will be imposed.

c. Students are reminded, as in section 1.7, that three cuts of a single class will
result in loss of credit.
d. Students who are late an thus missing 50% or more of the class period, will be
marked for a cut class. (2.2.4)
6. Late/Missed Assignments:
