Judges' Tip
An excellent About Me page will show a student's real passion for science, and be able to explain what winning would mean to them (250 words maximum).
Since I was young, curiosity has fueled my mind. This intellectual restlessness has evolved into a constant search for finding solutions to unanswered questions through hands-on experimentation. From making “goo” to the famous “mentos” experiment, I have never taken any opportunity to learn for granted. As I grew older, my questions also became more sophisticated and complex. A strong and insatiable desire for seeking answers to these new and inexplicable questions developed within me; a characteristic that further developed my leadership skills.
For the last couple of years, I have devoted a lot of time to my biology background through courses and internships in the field of cellular and molecular biology, biology, and biotechnology. After completing my cellular and molecular biology internship last summer at Florida International University, I developed my current project focusing on receptor-mediated endocytosis in diseased cells. My aim is to localize signals coming from a potentially cancerous gene and thus, find a target source of cancer within the cell cycle.
Currently, I am a 4.0 Principals Honor Roll student at TERRA Environmental Research Institute seeking to apply to dual enrollment programs in order to pursue my major in cell and molecular biology and hence graduate high school in June of 2013 as a junior in college. After college graduation, I intend to continue on to medical school and perhaps fulfill a Ph.D. program with emphasis in cell and molecular biology research. Essentially, allowing my interests to expand and surpass my limitations.
