New publication (Processes)

A new co-authored article was published in Processes.

This study demonstrates that residual antibiotics (amoxicillin) in livestock excreta significantly inhibit the growth and lipid synthesis of Chlorella sorokiniana, impacting bioenergy conversion and biodiesel yield, despite not affecting major nutrient removal.

Joining Mokpo National University (MNU) as Assistant Professor

I'm thrilled to announce my new role as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Mokpo National University (MNU), starting January 10, 2024.

I'm also looking forward to collaborations across various disciplines. If you're interested in working together or have ideas to share, feel free to contact me.

New work has published in Scientific Reports!

Our recent research has been published in Scientific Reports

This study underscores the simultaneous treatment of domestic and livestock wastewater using the indigenous microalga, Chlorella sorokiniana JD1-1.

We compared various dilution ratios, using both tap water and domestic wastewater as diluting agents.

Our findings indicate that diluting with domestic wastewater promotes superior microalgal growth compared to using tap water.

Collaborate work has published!

The collaborated work with our division in HNIBR has published in Korean Journal of Microbiology

Heterotrophic bacteria from Eulwangni Beach in Incheon, Korea, were isolated to study their role in organic matter cycling and commercial protease production.

From two environments, seawater and mud flats, 14 species were identified, with differences in dominant taxa between sites.

Several isolates, particularly from the Bacillus genus, showed high protease activity, hinting at potential industrial applications.

The first work in HNIBR has published!

The first work in HNIBR has published in Journal of Environmental Management

In this work, we isolated an indigenous strain, Chlorella sorokiniana JD1-1 from Jindo Island, South Korea.

This strain can contribute to removing nitrogen and phosphorus in both domestic and livestock wastewater. In addition, the efficiency of biodiesel production and CO2 fixation were also evaluated.

I'm very excited because this is the first paper that I contributed as the corresponding author.

New publication (Applied Soil Ecology)

A new co-authored article was published in Applied Soil Ecology.

This work has focused on the detoxification effects of difenoconazole-degrading bacteria, Sphingomonas histidinilytica C8–2.

This strain can contribute to preserving earthworm reproduction and fungal activities in difenoconazole-contaminated soils as well as difenoconazole degradation.

New publication (WM)

A new article was published in Waste Management.

This work has focused on the techno-economic evaluation of livestock urine and manure(LUM)-based microalgal biomass production.

This paper demonstrates the economic benefits of both LUM-based growth feedstock and also membrane-based harvesting systems.

In addition, we discuss the limitation of experimental-based techno-economic analysis as well as the perspectives and future challenges.

New publication (JIEC)

A new article was published in the Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry.

This work has focused on the valorization of spent coffee grounds as a catalyst for enhanced oxidation of methylene blue.

This synergistic system is expected for the complete degradation of organic dye as well as any kinds of organic matter (TOC) that is related to treating dye wastewater.

This work collaborated with my CBNU colleague Mr. HJ KIm.

Started a new job in HNIBR

Since Feb. 2021, I started a new job in HNIBR (Honam National Institute of Biological Resources) as an associate researcher.

In this institute, I'm planning to conduct a kind of researches related to environmental management and the production of valuable products from ocean/coastline biological resources.

Also, I'm very expected to make collaborate with any researchers (domestic and worldwide). If you have interests in my experiences, please contact me feel free.

New publication (Chemosphere)

A new article was published in Chemosphere.

This work has focused on the synergistic livestock excreta treatment using cold plasma and membrane photobioreactor.

This combined process can apply microalgae-based treatment system on high-turbidity livestock excreta treatment.

This work is collaborate with my CBNU colleague Ms. Park.

New publication (RSER)

A new article was published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews.

This work has reviewed the effects of pre-treatment and detoxification of lignocellulosic biomass to bioH2  production via dark fermentation.

I contributed to discuss the economic aspects of pre-treatment and detoxification with bioH2  production.
