Chemistry Discovery: we have an active involvement with this NSF-sponsored outreach program to middle school students in the greater Tucson region.

P.A.W.S.: The Program to Advance Women Scientists (CBC) was spear-headed by Lindsay Guzman in the group. This inclusive group seeks to empower women in chemistry and biochemistry through establishing mentoring and support networks.

Baboquivari Middle School

We have established ties with 8th graders at the Baboquivari middle school in Sells/Topawa and are developing a science mentoring program.

I am excited to report that the group is up and running
.
We call ourselves "Mehi Weimgam" (pronounced moy wom-e-gam) which translates as "Fire Clan." I am honored that the students have been teaching me about their culture. We have been experimenting with asking scientific questions, pH of foods, and combustion. I am thoroughly enjoying viewing the concepts through a new lens.
