About J.B. (Joo Baek) Kim
Greetings! My name is J.B. (Joo Baek) Kim, and I am an Assistant Professor of Information & Technology Management at theĀ John H. Sykes College of Business, University of Tampa, located in Tampa, Florida. Before joining UT, I was a faculty member at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts.
I earned a Ph.D. degree in Information Systems & Decision Science from Louisiana State University. I also hold master's degrees in Business Administration (with a concentration in Operations Management) from Seoul National University, in Manufacturing Management from Pennsylvania State University, and in Information Systems from the University of Arkansas. Prior to entering academia, I worked at the Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI) and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) in South Korea.
My research interests are focused on the pragmatic use of qualitative/quantitative research methods to examine and effectively use information systems and technology to improve society. Specifically, I am interested in exploring the areas of IT strategy in organizations, the role of IT in business transformation, the use of serious games in business education, gamification in business processes, and organizational technology adoption. With my research, I aim to find practical solutions that help organizations leverage technology to achieve their goals.
Regarding my teaching interests, I specialize in Management of Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Mining, Innovation Management, Research Methods in Information Systems (both quantitative & qualitative), Database Management, Gamification in Business, Business Statistics, and more.
