About me:
I completed a B.Sc. in Pure Mathematics in 2008, and Earth Sciences (Geophysics) in 2009. I am a M.Sc. candidate in Earth Sciences (Geophysics stream) at Memorial University, but am currently on leave. I am near completion of a B.Ed. (Intermediate/secondary).
My Master's project is on Microseismic Event Location techniques, specifically on "Extending the imaging condition and determining sensitivity to velocity for GmRTM (Geometric Mean Reverse Time Migration) to achieve improved Source Location Estimates" (improved microseismic earthquake locations).
I'm a Geophysicist (G.I.T.) with ~7 years Oil and Gas experience in private industry (Canada & the US). Working as a Geophysicist (G.I.T.) has brought me to most parts of the Southwestern US, Northeastern US, North East BC, Alberta, NWT, Nunavut & also parts of China.
I was born & bred in (beautiful & scenic) rural Newfoundland and currently live in St. John's, Newfoundland.
I previously worked as a StimMap Geophysicist for Schlumberger Technologies and was based in Dallas, Texas. Prior to this, I was a Geophysicist and Team Lead at Engineering Seismology Group (ESG) in Kingston, Ontario.
Outside of work/studies/research, I enjoy backpacking, hiking, hot yoga, kayaking, cycling and everything that involves being outdoors with my family. I have 3 boys.
I tutor Math as much as I can and am extremely familiar with the NL Curriculum and first year Math courses at MUN, CNA, Marine Institute & Academy Canada.
At Memorial, I previously taught 3 courses (M102F/M103F/M104F) for students who failed the Math Placement Test and would not be admitted to Memorial University Math 1050, Math 1090 and Math 1000. These courses (although offered at Memorial) are grade school and high school level math for University students. These courses teach Math skills/ the importance of drill and good study habits. I taught Math 102F/103F/104F and was a Teaching Assistant before that. I worked at the Math Learning Centre for about 7 years with students who struggled with Math. During most of this time, I also worked at the Math Help Centre (separate department from the Math Learning Centre) also at MUN. The Math Help Centre primarily helps students with assignments & test preparation for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and Linear Algebra.
I currently volunteer, or have previously volunteered with Eastern NL Science & Technology Fair, Let's Talk Science, Frontenac Lennox County Science Fair, and the Girl Guides of Canada.
