Helping Our Community

Local Rotary Programs

  • Youth Exchange Program since 1970
    • This program offers clubs the chance to promote world understanding and enrich the lives of qualified young people by sending selected high school-aged youth abroad to study and gain insight into a culture different from their own.
    • Participation in the International Youth Exchange program began in our Club in 1970. As of 2016, we have hosted 35 students from 25 different countries, and we have had 14 local students live and study overseas on the program.
  • Caring and Sharing Christmas Gift Program for Families in Need
    • This program was new to the Janesville Rotary Club in October, 2000. It was started in 1987 by Janesville resident Becky Miller, to help area families that may be having a difficult time making ends meet during the Christmas season. Due to Becky’s illness and death from cancer in 2000, she was unable to offer the program in 1998 and 1999. Becky’s husband, Frank Miller, asked the Rotary Club if the club would consider taking over the program, and the transition was completed. The program is being continued in memory of Becky and to benefit the entire community. In the first 16 years as a Rotary program, 977 children from 344 families received Christmas gifts purchased and donated by the public.

  • STRIVE Program
    • This program of our club started in October, 1999. STRIVE is a scholarship program which recognizes and rewards those students in the lower one-third of the senior class of JWP who show the most improvement in their grade point average during the school year. Rotary furnishes a mentor for each student involved in the program, and they meet periodically so the mentors can provide support and encouragement toward meeting each student's goals. Rotary awarded 3 scholarships ($500-$1,000-$1,500) to the most successful students participating in the program each year from 1999 through 2003. Beginning in 2004, scholarships of $250.00 to $1,000.00 have been awarded each year.
