Lowry Ruin was first excavated by Paul Martin during the 1930s after Al Lancaster had discovered the site after his explorations of the area. Today it is run by the Bureau of Land Management under the direction of the US Department of the Interior. The site consists of a great kiva and great house which are both accessible to the public (part of the great house is not accessible due to safety concerns). There is a restroom and picnic area next to a gravel parking lot which makes Lowry Ruin a great place to picnic while also experiencing firsthand the scope and style of architecture used by the Anasazi during the 11th century AD. For maps to the site and detailed descriptions of the site please visit the BLM website.
