Merit Badges require a subset of requirements different from those in the Boy Scout Handbook. Some Merit Badges are easier than others, and some are required for Eagle rank. Merit Badges must be taught by a certified counselor. When you complete a merit badge you will have your merit badge card signed by your counselor and by your scoutmaster, officially earning the badge. You need to earn at least 21 merit badges to get the Eagle rank. 13 of those need to be Eagle required badges.
The Eagle required merit badges are:
First Aid
Citizenship in the Community
Citizenship in the Nation
Citizenship in the World
Communication,
Cooking
Personal Fitness
Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving
Environmental Science OR Sustainability
Personal Management
Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling
Camping
Family Life
The rest of the merit badges that you need can be either more Eagle required badges, or any of the elective badges. There are over a hundred of the elective merit badges to choose from. A full updated list of all merit badges and their requirements can be found Here. After you earn your Eagle rank, you can earn a psalm for every 5 extra badges that you complete.
