Resume
My research and work experience are based on an interdisciplinary approach, and it is mainly founded on my deep knowledge in fieldwork geology, structural geology and remote sensing data interpretation. This expertise has allowed me to work in various scientific and industrial fields including geological mapping, analysis and models reconstruction of complex geological systems, basin research, regional geology, tectonics reconstruction with interpretation and support of geophysics data, scientific support for the hydrogeological, geothermal and mineral exploration.
Since my degree, I have developed stratigraphic and structural fundamental knowledge in the field for theoretical studies, scientific research and for the engineering geology sector. My work is based on the collection, analysis and interpretation of the field data with the support of the interpretation of remote sensing data, GIS systems and geophysical interpretation. I have more than twenty years of experience using ArcGIS Desktop software.
My academic research track started in 1998 at the University of Padova with Prof. G.V. Dal Piaz (Alpine Structural Geologist), where I used multidisciplinary analysis methods for brittle-tectonic model reconstruction, as Remote sensing data, with the collaboration of Prof. Pascal Allemand (Structural Geologist), University of Lyon. At the beginning of 2000, I started at the University of Siena a long period of fieldwork and I have produced many geological maps at scale 1: 10,000 and 1: 50,000 of a wide area comprising: Tuscany, Marche, Abruzzo, minor sector of Emilia-Romagna and Umbria. In Tuscany region, I have realized 45 geological maps at scale 1: 10,000 as the data base for the PhD thesis, in the Marche region I have realized 16 geological maps at scale of 1: 10,000 and 2 at scale 1: 50,000, linked with the Italian National Cartography Project (CARG). I have carried out, as academic consultant, other geological project all over the world: Libya (Cyrenaica al-Jabal al-Akhḍar), Tanzania (Tanzania Craton and Usagaran Belt), Saudi Arabia (central-southern Arabian Shield and the western part of the Arabian Platform) and Mexico (Southern part of the Gulg of Mexico, Veracruz- Coatzalcoalcos). From March 2014 until September 2016 I worked like a Senior Geologist of the geophysical research group at the Department of Physics and Earth Sciences of the University of Ferrara and at the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), Laboratory for Nuclear Technologies Applied to the Environment. I carried out the study of natural radioactivity content on rock and soil in some regions of Italy (Veneto, Toscana, Umbria and Sardegna).
From the September of 2016 I started to work as an Assistant Professor at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUTech), starting from February 2021 I am an Associate Professor at GUTech. Until now I achieved the base fundamental knowledge about the regional geology of Oman and, special, of the tectonics of the north-east sector (Jabal Akhdar). Furthermore, currently I have the teaching of different courses in field geology (geological field work, geological field methods, quantitative field methods, geological mapping, introduction to GIS, remote sensing image analysis), with more than two months/year in the field with the students. In these courses, the student learns to use the geological fundamental field methods for the geological mapping and the structural reconstruction, with the purpose to supporting the mining and oil exploration.

Statement of teaching philosophy
My personal approach as an Associate Professor is following two point of view, the first with the continuous acquisition of knowledge of the territory with the use of modern technologies, the second with the growing of a new generation of conscious and competent geo-scientist, therefore with a modern teaching methodology that does not forget the fundamental and traditional approaches. In this regard I think it is important for a scientist to know both the theoretical aspects of a discipline that the practical applications, in the case of earth sciences the field work is the first important and fundamental step for understand and "touch with the hands" the geological elements, structures and features, this step is the fundamental start for the subsequent studies.
The knowledge of the future scientists is fundamental for the evaluation, exploration and exploitation of the natural resources, considering that the field work (that is the first step of the natural resource evaluation) is expensive and therefore has to be planned with scientific and sustainable economic criteria. The learning process it has to be related with the development of new technologies and methods that can allow to avoid the wastefulness.
Field geology and Remote Sensing Data interpretation studies are fundamental for a great variety of research project that involving the knowledge of the territory, for the realization of great infrastructure for the mining investigations, for the risk assessment and more.
Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of course delivery
Currently at GUTech I am teaching with a blended method (face to face on the field and on-line), this because my courses are based on field work and practical exercises. Therefore, for the theoretical part now I am working with Moodle (video tutorials of how to solve the exercise, power point video audio recording, guidelines for the exercises), BigBlueButtonBN (live teaching) and Microsoft Teams (live teaching and meeting). I am also available with the students for personal video calls with Skype and Zoom, it depends on their needs and timetable.
At GUTech there is not an official teaching evaluation for taught courses, we use to have Department meetings to avoid any clashes of topics and to plan gradual transition between teaching levels.
