Our book club meets at the Grand Rapids Area Library every Wednesday from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, (winter hours) in a back room.
We choose books by discussion and consent, and everyone is encouraged to bring a book suggestion.
Prior to the meeting, at 12:30 pm, is a 25-minute meditation session for anyone who wants to participate.
We started in September, 2025, the book, The Biggest Ideas in the Universe ~
Space, Time, and Motion by Sean Carroll. It was said that Carroll is "The most trusted explainer of the most mind-boggling concepts." We did not care for the book, and instead read In The Evening We'll Dance: A Memoir in Essays on Love & Dementia.
We are now reading, in November, Fierce Vulnerability: Healing from Trauma, Emerging through Collapse, by Kazu Haga
"In Fierce Vulnerability, activist and author Kazu Haga argues this binary worldview is at the heart of what is destroying our relationships and our planet and offers a new way to create healing by combining the time-honored lineage of nonviolent action with the sciences of trauma healing and the promises of spiritual practice. Fierce Vulnerability realizes we can’t “shut down” injustice any more than we can “shut down” trauma; if healing is our goal, we need social movements that center relationships and promote healing."
These are the books that the IUF Book Club has discussed in the past three years.
