How Jesus Christ Worshiped God

Not much is written about Jesus’ physical demeanor and words when He worshipped His Father, but we can deduce many things. Twice when He spoke to His father, it says, “He lifted up His eyes, and said…” in one case, “glorify thy son that thy son may glorify thee….” (John 17: 1) and in another “ he lifted his eyes and said, "Thank you, Father," (Luke 11: 1). Jesus kept His eyes open, looking upward and spoke aloud, thanking and glorifying God.

Now Jesus was of the line of David, of whom God had the prophet Samuel say, “I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, .…” (1Samuel 13:14.) God rejoiced in David, because of the total abandon with which David worshipped Him. Jesus could only have worshipped God with some of the same psalms of praise that David used, for true worship is expression of adoration.

Read concerning David’s words of worship, in which the heart of God found joy, at “King David and the Psalms . The Psalms are hymns of praise to the Almighty G‑d, Creator of the Universe. They speak of G‑d's greatness, His goodness and mercy; His power and justice. David pours out his heart in these Psalms and avows his sincerest and purest trust in G‑d alone. Some psalms contain good advice, showing the way of true happiness through virtue and the fulfillment of G‑d's commandments.”

True worship affirms God, His holiness, His worthiness, and the truth of his Words. David knew this, and spoke his praise to God aloud. Jesus knew this, and spoke His praise to God aloud. Jesus would also have worshipped God the same way the angels worship Him.

The angels in heaven “stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. (Rev. 7: 11,12). It could only be that Jesus would have used the same words the angels did when He worshipped His Father. What else did the angels say to Him? “Holy, Holy, Holy”, and to the King: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.” (Rev 5: 12).

David, Jesus Himself and God’s Holy Angels are the only examples we have been given of HOW to worship God; we should copy them. Psalms are songs, so we should sing to him. David’s songs concentrated on praise and thanksgiving: “Great is the Lord, and Greatly to be praised”; “Oh give thanks unto the Lord for he is good, and his mercy endures forever”. David also spoke out: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with Praise”, and he revealed a secret: There is dynamic POWER in praise and thanksgiving to God, so that, if you have been standing outside, when you lift up your voice with praise and thanksgiving, the POWER of PRAISE, SPIRITUALLY lifts you up and places you inside the gates of heaven into the courtyard of God; praise and thanksgiving are the “key” to heaven’s gate that allow us to come into the presence of the Lord. Merely singing songs with spiritual content have no inherent power to usher one into the presence of God. Praising the sacrificed Lamb and risen Lord, do.

Anyone who wants to live more intimately with Jesus, and see His loving hand and miraculous power work in his life, must fill his personal time of meditation with the Lord, first in AUDIBLE PRAISE, GIVING GLORY AND HONOR to the Lord, Jesus Christ, and giving thanks to God’s sacrifice for our salvation. This is true worship. Many people go to church every Sunday, but never enter into true worship as Jesus did, in spirit and in truth.
