I wouldn't be surprised if some of the settings I describe here change as the Meta AI app matures. I wrote this in mid August 2025 after performing some experiments. I'll try to remember to review the app's behaviour regularly to keep this page up to date. All my tests were done on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses but I expect the Oakley glasses will behave similarly.
Meta AI has a history tab at the bottom of its main screen which displays all your recent Hey Meta interactions. This can be useful if you need to check back on a recent response but is probably less useful for older activity since it can't be searched. According to Meta's website, information is stored for up to 1 year. I'm unsure if this refers to the History list or to information held on Meta's servers. The history can get quite large and will increase the size of your iCloud backups and, of course, memory used on your iPhone. Individual items can be deleted in the History tab but you need to go elsewhere for a Delete All. The place you need is in your glasses settings in the Meta AI app and its definitely worth taking a look.
Go to glasses settings / Glasses Privacy / Voice Activity Log. What you find there will depend on another setting we'll look at later. You may have play buttons which will play what your glasses hear after "Hey Meta". There will also be a transcript of what Meta AI thought you said.
Alternatively, you may just have the transcripts of your speech with no voice recording and play button.
Whichever you have there won't be any of Meta AI's response here. YOu'll need to go to the History tab to discover the question and answer together.
As with History, you can delete individual items in the Voice Activity Log but here there is also a button to delete all. Items deleted here will be removed from your History too but there may be a lag before this happens.
Now, whether or not you have recordings in the Voice Activity Log is determined by your choice of the Voice Storage setting in glasses settings / Privacy & Security / Glasses Privacy. If you turn this on your Hey Meta voice commands are recorded and kept on your phone and may be shared anonymously with AI reviewers and trained human reviewers who may use your recordings to help improve system performance. That's all fine and I generally turn on switches like this for the general good. I did pause for thought, though, when I experimented with the delete all button in the Voice Activity Log. Before I carried out the deletion the following pop up message appeared:
Quote begins:
Delete all of your voice activity, any associated photos and any imported photos from the Meta AI app.
Quote ends.
Meta's privacy statement makes no explicit mention that I could spot about sharing associated photos with human reviewers but I can't understand why they'd be saved otherwise since there doesn't seem to be a way the user can access them. I've probably just misinterpreted some poorly drafted text but since blind users are probably going to ask their glasses to read documents that contain personal information we need to make our own decisions about the risk associated with turning on the Voice Storage switch. I'm planning to leave mine turned on because even if images I ask my glasses to read could in principle be reviewd by a human at Meta or a Meta sub-contractor I reckon that in itself is unlikely and it's extremely unlikely that my activity will fall prey to a rogue reviewer. The only direct benefit to a user from turning on the Voice Storage switch is the ability to check what has happened if your glasses repeatedly misunderstand you and this may help you make some alterations in the way you speak with them. The other benefit is the possible long-term benefit of your activity eventually helping Meta improve the system to respond correctly to voices like yours.
