Tuning the ammo for barrel vibration is time consuming, however, it is one of the most important to reach a high level of accuracy. It is a time consuming process that requires shooting multiple batches of ammo with different bullet seating depth. Without going into details a bullet puller is a must to have and use during the reloading process. Well, the most common tool we use for smaller cartriges does not accommodate the larger .338 case. I searched on the web and find a video where a gentlemen took the RCBS bullet pulling hammer and enlarged it by inserting a heated .338 LM cartrige. Apparently the collet does not fit on the screwing cap when clamping the large .338 LM case. I checked my Midway USA bullet pulling hammer and I find that the screwing cap is larger and it will take the collet with .338 LM case inserted. However, the body of the case does not fit into the hammer. Instead of trying the trick of enlarging the hammer body with a hot case I decided simply to shave it inside.
I used an actual case wrapped with sand paper to keep the roundness of the hole.
Since the .338 LM case was just slightly larger than the bullet puller hammer hole it required to remove only a small part of the inside of the hole. It still took about 1/2 hours to shave manually. However, it was a well spent 1/2 hours. I have now a bullet pulling tool that works with .338 LM also.
