The Kirkland Trophy (Division 1)
The donor of the Kirkland Trophy was Stirling Cranston Kirkland, who was manager of the Bank of Scotland, High Street, Inverness, from 1950 to 1962, later retiring to reside at 3 Hill Park, Inverness. He became a member of Highland Curling Club in 1951, and held the office of President in 1964 and 1965.
With the advent of the Inverness Ice Rink, he became actively associated with the formation of the Inverness Province, and in recognition of his efforts, was elected the first President.
He also served for a time on the RCCC Council, and had the distinction of being a member of the “8-Ender Club”.
The Colin Taylor Trophy (Division 2)
Colin Taylor, first manager of the Inverness Ice Rink, presented this trophy to Inverness Province in 1973 for the winners of the newly created Second League.
The interest in curling at this time was such that the numbers competing in the Province League Competition doubled in one year, and the trophy was donated to stimulate interest in this league.
The Mackinlays & Birnie Trophy (Division 3)
This trophy was presented by Mackinlays and Birnie Curling Club in 1974 for the winners of the newly created Third Division.
The club was instituted in 1968 and the trophy was presented to stimulate interest in this League.
The Morrison Construction Trophy (Division 4)
Gifted to Inverness Province in March 2000 by Donald MacLennan on behalf of Morrison Construction Limited, to be presented annually to the Winners of the newly created Fourth Division.
The Sharon Leon Salver (Division 5)
Presented to Inverness Province in March 2000 by James Sheerin of Sharon Leon Carpets, a local family firm, to the Winners of the newly created Fifth Division.
The Stanley Dennis Salver - Province Knockout
Ronald Dennis and Scott Don, partners in the firm of Stanley Dennis, bookmakers, donated the above trophy for the Inverness Province Knock-Out Competition when the new Ice Rink opened in Inverness in 1968.
Being enthusiastic curlers, and feeling the importance of competition in fostering and developing the sport, they donated the trophy in the interests of competitive curling.
Presented by Aileen and Robin Kelly in April, 1973, for competition within the Ladies Clubs of Inverness Province.
Robin was founder Vice-President of the Province from 1968 to 1971, and this trophy was donated to Province to mark the occasion of his retiral as President from 1971 to 1973.
William Birnie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Glen Mhor Distillery, Inverness, presented this trophy to Inverness Province for a One Day Bonspiel – which is usually played on the local Fast-day in January of each year.
Willie, as he was affectionately known, was a keen curler on outdoor ice at Kingsmills. He donated this trophy on the advent of the McKinlay & Birnie Club joining the Inverness Province.
This distinctive trophy was donated to Inverness Province by Donal McKillop to the memory of his younger brother, Alan. An enthusiastic curler in Inverness, Alan was a member of the Highland Curling Club, Kingsmills. Tragically, he died in 1964, at the early age of 42 years. His interest in the “roaring game” was such that his mark was felt long after his passing.
