These are letters from Maya Generalists.
"So I've been here a little over a week, so here goes:
Everyone is really cool, the days are long but go by quickly.
I'm the only maya guy here, I'm doing a commercial right now, doing all the CG stuff ALONE. They say if it gets too rough in the future they can hire a few interns to work under me. I'm way ahead of schedule though, I think the thesis may have helped with that.
Also, it's noteworthy that they literally didn't even read my resume, they just looked at the reel.
Incase students want to know, the pay is $750 a week, flat rate, no benefits. I'm on contract to work 40 hours a week, but I've been in 70 this week. I think there will always be some give and take.
One thing I learned REAL fast is that they aren't interested in training or teaching you. If you don't know what you're doing the first day, you're gonna get fired, at least at this place. I'm getting by via google search "maya help".
I think I've got a grip on all this, oddly enough I ended up in the same exact position on my thesis doing absolutely everything from start to finish. It sucks that I have no one to talk to about technical problem solving, but it's nice that they take me at my word when I say something will take time. Theres a lot of mutual respect, which can sometimes be hard to come by.
