The Teaching of Now
in Zen and Yoga

An online retreat to embrace the Solstice.

June 15 - 18

Join us, Shokuchi and Ingen, as the sun reaches its Zenith and the daylight reachest its maximum.

Join us in fullness of life.

Join us in this online retreat from the comfort of your own home, or the comfort of a friend’s. If you’re in Ireland you can join Ingen in person at Ingen-ji.

For two decades Ingen and Shokuchi have presented The Mind and Body of Practice in Zen and Yoga and now feel it’s time to change the amplification to The Teaching of Now in Zen and Yoga. It is the same retreat and both amplifications are applicable. The two can be combined into The Teaching of Now in the Mind and Body of Practice in Zen and Yoga. The new amplification draws attention to what has been very much central to the retreats over the past twenty years.

Honoring the passage of time we commit to being present in Zen, in Yoga, in the eternal Now, finding the stillness in activity and the activity in stillness. As Suzuki Roshi said in Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, we are always loosing our balance against a background of perfect balance.

We feel it’s possible and desirable to build a regular Zen and Yoga Sangha practice and are offering monthly weekend retreats through the first half of 2023, please refer to the calendar for the dates of these retreats. The offering of these monthly retreats culminates in this four-day retreat.

As usual, we look forward to practicing Zen and Yoga with you and with each other.

This retreat is intended to be spacious and relaxed. It offers two sessions led by Shokuchi and two by Ingen each day. Ingen and Shokuchi are also sharing more of their personal practice with you in this retreat.

Shokuchi is offering Cultivating the BodyMind of Tranquillity, Restorative Yoga, Prāṇayāma, and yogāsana class in the Donald Moyer Yoga tradition (see notes), Ingen is offering Zen in Motion.

Zen in Motion is a series of exercises tanken from Aikido, T’ai Chi, Chi Kung, Kung Fu, and Yoga compiled by Ingen. You follow along as appropriately as you can, paying attention and respect to your body and it’s limitations. The main thing is to be present and flow.

Cultivating the BodyMind of Tranquillity includes Sūryanamaskāra (Sun Salutes–Shokuchi's version), Prāṇāyāma (see notes), Ṡamatha practice (traditional Buddhist concentration practice developing tranquillity), and Ṡavāsana (relaxed stillness).
