Overall layout

The interior is spacious and has comfortable open plan feel; the boat is unobstructed from the wet locker at the companionway all the way to the forward saloon bulkhead. The headroom is a generous 6 foot 5 inches. Starting forward, the floor plan is as follows. The V-berth with storage beneath serves as guest or child quarters, head/shower is to port, storage shelves to starboard. The saloon has a beautiful solid cherry drop-leaf table, port & starboard sea berths with storage beneath and bookshelves above. The unusually large galley is aft to port. The navigation table is starboard and has well-designed instrument panel and light schematic. The master stateroom has an extra-long, standard double bed with storage beneath. The hanging locker and life raft storage are located aft to starboard and there is a huge cockpit locker.

The interior is very nicely finished with solid cherry wood throughout. It is well ventilated with six dorades, six opening ports, six hatches, and five 12V cabin fans for tropical climates. We expand the living area at anchor with a full deck awning to enjoy sleeping or sitting topside and with a bed in the cockpit. It is also well insulated and has three kerosene lanterns for cold climates. Storage area is vast for a boat this size.

Rick says :"We easily carry 6 months provisions and have gone 3 months without re-provisioning. Weight does not significantly impact sailing performance. We once carried 2,000 lbs.(907kg) of supplies to an outlying atoll to help the locals and did not notice any impact on sailing performance or handling".

The hard dodger is an important safety and comfort feature on passages. I personally wouldn't do long passages without one. "We were particularly glad to have this feature on our worst weather passage from Tonga to New Zealand" Rick mentioned. The long aft cockpit provides for comfortable sailing and convivial sundowners. The new Sunbrella cockpit awning provides good weather protection and the sun awning is nice in the tropics.

Galley

The galley is unusually large and has an efficient "U" shape so there is no need of a body strap at sea. There is more than ample storage space for pots, pans, dishes and food. The front-opening refrigerator and freezer provides easy access to food as opposed to a more traditional fridge located in the counter. Note that freezer and refrigerator are completely different and autonomous installations, with two dedicated compressors, in order to be used according to your needs. The Corian counter tops are pretty and functional.

Engine & Electrical

The Lister Petter 55 hp marinized turbo diesel is built to NATO specs for tank power plants, and is an exceptionally smooth, quiet and long-lived motor with an extensive worldwide parts and service network; it is centrally positioned with 3-sided access for easy maintenance.

The electrical system is well balanced incorporating 190 amp alternator, 6 solar panels and wind generator which provide "luxury" power while eliminating the need for a troublesome gen set. The quietness of the wind generator is a real plus. The110v/60hz or 240v/50hz shore power and 240 or 110 interior outlets facilitate international cruising.

Hull & Deck

Infidien is constructed of 5083 marine grade aluminum alloy in excess of Lloyds' standards for high latitude sailing with 12mm plate at the bow and forward centreline;10 mm thickness under waterline, tapering to 8 mm then 6 mm. Deck is 5 mm thick. Double hull with 10 cm foam insulation throughout. Skeg hung rudder with 100 mm shaft, 3 bearings. The hull is semi-faired welded plate over frame and stringer framing (as opposed to popular European production metal yachts which opt for economical hard chine frame less construction) giving her exceptional hull rigidity and collision protection. Everyone says their first impression of Infidien is how strongly she is built.. Rick and his family were especially glad to have her when they were in the tsunami in Thailand. You just don't know what situations you will find yourself in and having a strong boat provides confidence and peace of mind. All deck hatches are equipped with removable security bars to prevent intruders. New Treadmaster Original (diamond shape) anti-slip decking was added, combining exceptional slip resistance with durability and comfort in wet and dry conditions. It provides a high degree of insulation and reduces reflective glare from deck surfaces..

All the running rigging and control lines are new as of February, 2006 and her standing rigging is new (05/2007).

Additional Equipment & Features
