8th Grade Exploratory In this course, students will continue the various pathways that are offered through the high school and community college towards a marketable career. Students will learn the fundamentals of the following careers: welding, construction, engineering, and small engines.
Welding Fundamentals During this unit, students will explore the welding career while learning about MIG and ARC welding. Students will know and understand how to weld safely and the general techniques used in welding.
Construction Fundamentals During this unit, students will explore the construction career while doing activities that involve layout, wall building, drywalling, plumbing and electrical, and roofing. Students will know and understand how important job site safety is.
Engineering Energy and Environment During this unit, students will explore the career of engineering. Students will complete activities that will teach them the basics of the engineering design process. Students will have to think outside of the box to come up with solutions to the problems.
Plasma Cutter Basics During this unit, students will learn the basics of plasma cutting, the process of cutting metal into art with electricity and compressed air.
CarveWright Fundamentals During this unit, students will design and carve a project using the CarveWright machine. This project would be a great contribution to the 3-D printer, cricut, or even the plasma cutter.
Small Engines During this unit, students will tear down a small engine, use precision tools to measure some parts on the engine and then reassemble the engine to working order.
Cricut/3-D Printing During this unit, students will explore the various possibilities of 3-D printing and sign making using the Cricut. Students will have the opportunity to create projects such as shirts, water bottles, etc. The possibilities are endless with this module.
There are 6 units listed above, all of which are 10 days in length. You will be required to complete 3 of the units of your choosing. All of the units are worth the same amount of points for grading purposes. For the last 12 days of the term, you will be required to complete a project of your choosing that deals with the units that you chose from the beginning.
Project Unit During this time, you will be working on a final project of one of the fundamental units that you chose previously.
You will need to fill out this Google Document every day. You will submit this form for your grading for the module that you are working on.
