Welcome to the 7th Grade Industrial Technology Exploratory at Maquoketa Middle School. In this course, students will study the various pathways that are offered through the high school and community college towards a marketable career. Students will learn the basics of the following careers: welding, construction, engineering, and woodworking.
CO2 Dragster Design During this unit, students will design, test and build a CO2 powered dragster. At the end of the semester, we will race the dragsters.
Welding Basics During this unit, students will explore the welding career while learning about MIG and ARC welding. Students will know and understand how to weld safely and the general techniques used in welding.
Construction Basics During this unit, students will explore the construction career while doing activities that involve layout, wall building, drywalling, and roofing. Students will know and understand how important job site safety is.
Engineering Design and Modeling During this unit, students will explore the career of engineering. Students will complete activities that will teach them the basics of the engineering design process. Students will have to think outside of the box to come up with solutions to the problems.
CarveWright Basics During this unit, students will use the CarveWright design system to design a project and then will carve out that project. The system uses basic CNC principles to automatically carve their project. Once carved, students will sand and finish their project.
Woodworking Basics During this unit, students will know and understand woodworking safety, along with how to properly construct a project using woodworking principles.
There are 6 units listed above, all of which are 10 days in length. You will be required to complete the CO2 Dragster Design unit. You will also be required to complete 2 other units of your own choosing. All of the units are worth the same amount of points for grading purposes. For the last 12 days of the term, you will be required to complete a project of your choosing that deals with the units that you chose from the beginning. We will also be racing your CO2 dragsters during the last week of the semester.
