The Indiana University Marching Hundred Drumline is an integral part of the nationally renowned Indiana University "Marching Hundred" directed by Professor David Woodley. Founded in 1896 with 22 members, the Marching Hundred now boasts 230 members, including piccolos, clarinets, alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, trumpets, mellophones, trombones, baritones, sousaphones, marching percussion and The Redsteppers, IU's premier dance line.
The innumerable major events played by the Marching Hundred include, Superbowl XLVI, The Indy 500, The Kentucky Derby, The Rose Bowl, The Presidential Inauguration Parade, BOA Grand National Semi-Finals, numerous Indianapolis Colts games, and a multitude of bowl game appearances, most recently at the Pinstripe Bowl (2015) and Foster Farms Bowl (2016). The band was the recipient of the 2007 Sudler Trophy for the most outstanding marching band in the country, and the drumline was the 2016 PASIC Drumline Battle champion. In 2018, The Marching Hundred looks forward to moving into our brand-new, state-of-the-art, Cramer Marching Hundred Hall.
Members of the IU Drumline have performed with in multitudes of WGI and DCI champions, and can count many successful professional musicians, top-flight music educators, and leaders in the percussion field among it's alumni. Current members of the IU drumline have also performed with The Cavaliers, Legends, Shadow, Music City Mystique, Rhythm X, Legacy, and INov8.
The IU Drumline is a highly engaging performance ensemble, and has extremely high expectations of it's members. Performing at every IU Football home game, the drumline must learn over 60 minutes of music, including 6 halftime shows, a 20 minute pregame performance, several cadences, and an ever increasing amount of "stand tunes" and exercises. Being a member of the IU Drumline is prestigious, and the amount of work that each member must dedicate to the ensemble means that prestige is well earned.
