Biography
Illsoo Sohn received the B.S., M.S., and Ph. D. degrees in 2003, 2005, and 2009, respectively from Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea, all in the field of electrical engineering. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Wireless Networking and Communication Group, University of Texas at Austin from 2009 to 2010. He worked as a senior research engineer at Advanced Communication Technology Research Lab., LG Electronics from 2010 to 2012. He worked as a network design engineer at Network Strategy Department, KT from 2012 to 2013. From 2013 to 2017, he was an assistant professor at Department of Electronics Engineering in Gachon University. From 2017, he is a professor at Department of Computer Science and Engineering in Seoul National University of Science & Technology. His current research interests include statistical inference, message-passing algorithms, massive MIMO, and IoT healthcare.
Dr. Sohn is the recipient of the IEEE802.11ac Award for Significant Technical Contribution to the MAC (2014), LG Group R&D Award for core-technology development of next-generation WLAN (2012), Heinrich Hertz Award for Best Communications Letter (2011), the Gold Prize in the 15th Samsung Humantech Paper Contest (2009), Silver Award in IEEE International Student Paper Contest, Seoul Section (2008), and Best Poster Paper Award in IEEE International Student Paper Contest, Seoul Section (2007). He received the Korea Government Fellowship (KOSEF) during his Ph. D. studies.

Internet of Things/Post WLAN: distributed multiple access, distributed interference control, power save algorithms
Device-to-Device Comm.: user cooperative diversity, virtual MIMO
Graph Theory: message-passing algorithms, belief-propagation, statistical inference
5G Networks: Beyond 5G, ultra-dense wireless sensor network, smart grid
