Presently we are developing methods to reconstruct pressure, shear stress and heat flux at the immersed surface. We have successfully developed methods for accurate estimations of lift and drag in 2D laminar flow applications. We want to extend our methods for 3D turbulent flow that may require adaptive mesh refinement.
Shown below are results from a simulation of Mach 0.5 flow past a NACA0012 simulation. The figure on the left and middle are the pressure contours from the IB simulation and Fluent simulation respectively. The line plot on the right compares the surface pressure coefficient for the two simulations. An inverse-distance based algorithm is used for the reconstruction of surface pressure for the IB simulation.
