Summer Internship 2022

I am looking for 2nd or 3rd year UG students from either Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering for the following projects

Use of meta-materials for frame/plate-based vibration isolation of structures

Meta-materials for enhanced noise reduction in acoustic enclosures

Digital image processing of videos to find vibration patterns and frequencies

Vijay Kumar (PhD Scholar)

Vijay has developed Rayleigh-Ritz based reduced order models for ladder-frame motivated structures. A very novel representation of the beam shape functions using binary asymptotic mode shape functions has been developed. He has applied these to lumped spring/mass elements attached to beams and also working on bar/beam attachments. The model provides insights into dynamic design of such structures at considerably reduced cost. He is being co-guided by Dr. Abhijit Sarkar and should graduate by May 2022

Jhalu Gorain (PhD Scholar)

Jhalu is interested in low-frequency noise control. He proposes to use resonator embedded acoustic meta-materials for this purpose and has already demonstrated the effectiveness of novel medical syringe-based resonators in impedance tube testing as well as its effectiveness in a cylindrical cavity. He is currently developing materials using 3D printing which will be tested under random incidence conditions. Jhalu will graduate by June 2022.

Chaitanya Morey (PhD Scholar)

Chaitanya joined IIT Madras in January 2021. He is interested in the use of meta-materials for vibration isolation and control. He has completed his course requirements and has just initiated research in the topic.

Jagdish Borade (MS Scholar)

Jagdish has explored the stringed Indian instrument , Saraswati Veena, to understand its vibro-acoustic characteristics. He should graduate by June 2022?

S Nandha Kumar (MS Scholar)

Nandha Kumar is working on developing scaled boundary finite element (SBFEM) models for 3D acoustic cavities. The idea is to improve the computational efficiency of existing element-based methods for the mid-frequency range. He is being co-guided by Dr. Sundararajan Natarajan. Nandha will submit his MS thesis by May 2022.

Ramakant Nirmalkar (MS Scholar)

Ramakant joined IIT Madras in January 2021 and has completed his course work. He is likely to work on finite periodic acoustic cavities as seen in railway coaches. Dr. Abhijit Sarkar is his co-guide.

Bhanu Pratap Singh (MS Scholar)

Bhanu joined IIT Madras in January 2021. He is likely to work on studying the dynamics of lunar module landing on rocky/soft surfaces. Dr. Ratna Kumar Annabattula is his co-guide.
