IHSBOB: 2022 Announcements

Welcome to the Iowa High School Battle of the Books home page! We are glad you found us! We would like to invite any high school students from across the state of Iowa to participate in the Iowa High School Battle of the Books.

Here's how it works:

  1. Form a team of up to 6 students in grades 9-12 (you can have more than one team per school). Students may only be on one team.

  2. Find an adult coach (teacher, parent, librarian).

  3. Complete one registration PER team (ELECTRONICALLY by 11:59pm on February 11). A coach may register multiple teams! The registration fee will be $25 per team this year. The registration fee allows every team to participate in a virtual session with our visiting author.

  4. Read the books! Discuss the books with your team and have fun!

  5. Take a multiple choice test online with your team March 28-April 1, 2022 at your home school.

  6. Top 16 qualifying teams participate in the GRAND BATTLE on Wednesday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Central Rivers Area Education Agency's Marshalltown office.

This year the contest will have a few changes due to new co-chairs and a partnership with the Iowa Council of Teachers of English (ICTE). Please read the information on this site carefully and reach out to us at the email address below if you have any questions.

"In the case of good books, the point is not to see how many of them you can get through, but rather how many can get through to you."
